Tyre Size Advice

Postby Pete JB » Mon, 15 Jun 2009 10:31 +0000

Hi Folks,

I'm just about to put new rubber on the car, but I noticed yesterday on the bit of info on the car door that the tyres should be as follows:

Front 185 60R 14
Rear 195 50R 15

Bot of my current tyres are Front 185 60R 14's I assume that this was done in error by a previous owner & I just didn't realise the last time I changed the tyres, what do you think? And this may sound like a dumb question but will the two different sizes fit on the same rims?

Let me know what you think,

Cheers,
Pete

It's a MK2 1999 1.8, guess I should have mentioned that.

Hi there,
It can be a mistake:
Front 185 60R 14
Rear 195 50R 15
In this case you need to different rim size- 14 on the front and 15 on the back.
PM your mail and I will send you a pdf about it.
Hope that will help you.

Right, I'm daft. The door car d mentions the two different tyre sizes, but does not specifically mean that there should be two different sizes, the text in the various boxes just seems to line up, I've attached a photo to show you what I mean. Silly me

Pete

I think what this is saying is that these are recommended tyre sizes - whichever ones you choose - but not mixing sizes front/rear. Regardless, the pressure is 26psi. Personally I prefer a slightly harder tyre pressure - around 28psi
