I strongly thinking of acquiring a peugeot 406 coupe hdi.Anybody know of horror stories or reasons why I should avoid it.Its a 02 with real low documented mileage and got all the paperwork etc.
Appreciate any ideas or suggestions.Theres good value with French cars at the moment

In fairness, 7k maybe unreasonable for a straight purchase for cash. But its a coupe, they're kinda rare (and nicer than the saloon)as 2.2 oil burners, and if the milage is as low as that, and its documented, with a haggle, it'd make a nice purchase.

Ok if you have a thing for them. There are tales of that hdi pump breaking up and the filings of metal circulating through the entire system wrecking a lot of injection sys. But then there are tales on everything & the one you look at has low miles. I like them they were hand built alongside ferraris by pinnanfarini. But if I was goin 7 large ones and payin 2.2 road tax and goin left field I'd go for the 2.2 diesel PT cruiser (mercedes diese). Being sensible you can get 05 honda accord 2.2 in from UK and cleared for that money a whopper of a car. Sure my inlaws are flogging a 03 bmw 320 D Msport for 9k. that would pee on the peugot

Ronan says 'it is a bit expensive but it is alot of car and after it is a Pininfarrina and you can't put a price on beauty!'
He has had one problem with the car in 5 years and that was the power steering fluid leaked...his experience with it has been pretty much flawless.

Thanks for the replies folks its much appreciated.I have no intention of handing over 7 big ones or even 7 small ones for the motor. Its more of a swap type situation for a vw golf. The value of the deal will be fine its the quality of the French build I am interested in.Got a bit of bad feedback on the PAF system so far and I would concur with the electrics issue. But you base everything on reliability can you?I will do about 30k miles next year and I reckon it will do it in comfort and safety.I'll let you know how I get on.

I had a Peugeot 306 Estate prior to buying the Mazda.
It was a 1.4 petrol, and was fantastic!
Never a days of trouble, I had used it for three years and it never failed me.
Sold it to a neighbour last year (after been parked up for 12 months) and it's going like a clock for him.
Would strongly recommend the Peugeot brand!
