Opinions and experience needed here

We're about to purchase our second ever tumble dryer. Last one giving up the ghost after 10 years. I think it deserves a well-earned rest and a trip to the recycling yard to be stripped down. Oh ar missus!

The one we have is a condensing one and has been fantastic but it does have down sides

1. It takes ages to dry clothes
2. You have to empty the cartridge after pretty much every wash
3. More expensive to run than vented.

On the plus side

1. No hole in the wall allowing heat to escape ( ie heat sucked through the dryer and out)
2. Generates extra heat during cold weather.

So, what do you use, how do you find them and what was your thinking behind buying them.

All guidance welcome.

Yeah, vented is best but as you say needs a little extra to install.

The condenser version is a compromise - takes less space and easier to install.

If you have a garage or shed or something you could install the vented drier there perhaps ?

if you go vented make sure you don't get a gobsh--te to fit it like our new neighbours got. lazy bas---d they got put the vent pipe for drier and extractor fan into cavity .

Got a vented one a while back. Put beside a small window and just drop the vent out. Didnt see much difference in ESB charges.

I have a drier in my utility on top of my washing machine, near an external wall. The vent for the drier is up through the ceiling along the floor rafters and down through the fachia, to the outside. It has a nice tidy grill on the fachia.
No need to get a man to play with big,
tools and then you have to listen to their huffing and puffing what a big job it is. The only big job is the job you have to do after him, is cleaning up all the dust he created, with his rented big boys toys.
Putting your drier in the shed is a mans solution, he dosent have to put much effort into running in and out in the bad weather to keep his smalls and sheets fresh. The invention of the drier was to help us unpaid domestics, in the bad weather. Keep it in the house. (you will get less head colds.) It will rot over time in the high humidity we have in this country in the shed. These machines were invented for the modern house keeper. Keep them close to your work station(the house)
I hope ive helped in keeping space in the shed for him to work at his station.

I only have to listen to it for the time I'm there.
