Have you had your Top down Yet

Postby Mise » Sat, 16 Feb 2008 12:04 +0000

I have had the top down twice this month :D
Just wondering is it just me or has anyone else done the same ?
Also... I am thinking that people must be looking at me and thinking *anker ... But I am now starting to think 8UCK THEM This is class.
Does anyone else think like this ?

On Wednesday I drove from Maynooth to Athlone with the top off - absolutely fantastic. Although it was all motorway (to Kilbeggan) it was thoroughly enjoyable. I had the heater set to my feet and to the steering wheel, put on a hat and let rip. Am about to reach that magic 1000km mark, so am still keeping the engine to 4000rpm, but that equates to approx 140kph (though at one point I'm sure I saw 160kph.........only joking officer  ).

I thought the windbreaker on the MK 3 looked rather small and I doubted its effectiveness, so dropped it for a few seconds and the wind came swirling in. I see there are larger ones available, but it did a grand job of keeping the cabin reasonably calm. I think it works because the rear deck is also high.

2 weeks ago i had the top down on a trip to Clonakilty in wesht Cork (REBEL country) from Fermoy and i encountered a "builders" van whose occupents kindly offered me the universal sign for a "candlestick polisher" as they drove past (flashing their lights to boot.... :? ),i of course responded with a well timed cheery wave and a big cheesy grin :D :D :D ........and was nursing a semi for the rest of the day!

Stephen - I'd forgotten just how often this happens in this type of car. I met a friend at Liffey Valley on Wednesday, to show him the car, and we (well, he) took it for a drive in and around Lucan. We had the roof up and down, and at one point he said "You are really aware of people looking at you". In the 6 years I had the MK1 I (thankfully) only had 2 experiences of being given the bird - on many occasions it was just the opposite, when I had the roof down I would often get smiles/nods etc, and a few times had "nice car" shouted at me.

I've been topless a few times already this year.
You forget about people looking after a while and you won't really care as the car is way better driving with the top down.
Everybody goes through that at the start, then it becomes like ANY excuse to drop the top and drive !!
