induction question

Postby indie » Thu, 08 Dec 2011 2:33 +0000

im looking to remove the air box and fit a re-usable filter, k&n type or similar. would i be right in say that providing the maf is left in place fitting an induction cone wont require a re-map.
comming from the land of subaru where once the engine is touched it needs to be mapped, im curious if fitting an induction kit will have a negative effect. when driving along i can hear the air been sucked in the oem pipes and it sounds a bit weedy

lots of good info on miata.net or other forums on air intake and filter mods. Some very interesting ones too....

have done this myself and added a cold box. measured temperatures once in a sort of scientific way and there was a definite improvement.

If I get a chance, will post pics of mine.

Doesnt need to be remaapped - at least not that I know of!

if you want it to sound better go for it but dont expect much gain unless your gonna do more breathing work on the engine. The standard airbox is very good just in a stupid location by the exhaust. Try to get cold air fed to it first .
