will 1993 1.8 diff and shafts fit into a mk1 1990?

im looking for more strength and reliability out of the diff as ive gone turbo.

also would the ratio be any different in the 1.8 diff to the 1.6?

cheers

yep, I have a 1.8 LSD (had a 1.8 open previously and kinda mangled 3 or 4 1.6 diffs), you'll also need the prop shaft (different length)... and thats it.
Ratios didn't change, am not sure which are lower/higher (6 speed cars def have different ratio), but you'll figure out your current one by rotating the prop shaft.

ratios are different - 1.6 cars are all geared 4.3:1 , 1.8 car had 2 different gear types 4.1 or 4.3 depending what model it was.

If you fit a 4.1 or one from a 6 speed ( 3.6 or 3.9:1) then your speedo will not be accurate

Sorry for writing here, but ad I saw the topic i have a few questions as well:
I have a 97 jap import 1.8. The B2 Limited. How do i check if i have LSD? The other strange thing the logbook says automatic. I have a 5 gear manual. Can it happen they have changed the gearbox? The rev for the different gears very high. It does 4000 at 128 kmh in 5th gear. Thats more than my girl's 1.4 Astra... Any ideas? Thanks!

no...only 1.8 mk2 cars have the 6 speed box but these can be retro fitted to a mk1 as can the diffs

dont touch a diff from a 2001 onwards...they are fuji units and break easily

auto to manual conversions can be done although its an arse of a job , ecu ,throttlebody , icv, loom gearbox etc all needs changed

Auto converted cars do tend to idle high if not done properly

You are probably going to want a Torsen diff too. Here is a guide that shows you how to tell the difference:
