Rebuild 1.6 or change for 1.8??

I need talking out of something.
Might have my hands on a 80000km 1.8 engine and wondering if it's worth fitting instead of fixing my 1.6 with at least 180000km on it?
The 1.6 is going great but is burning some oil and has some bad vacuum like issues. Need to do some more fault finding but it's looking like rings or a valve problem.
Has anyone done this job and has it been worth it?
Changing would defo be cheaper than a rebuild but I'd like to keep the 1.6 so very torn
Any advice either way would appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

1.6 is cheaper tax but 1.8 will make more power. Throw in a 1.8 if you dont mind tge tax and insurance

Id go 1.8 with lightened flywheel. More power and would be nice and revvy.

What exactly is involved in swapping the 1.8 motor in ? I was always lead to believe that it's not a straight swap but
I never really looked into it in detail.

I have sold several 1.8 engines for fitting to 1.6 and its simple enough. You will need both manifolds, engine mounting brackets, air rossover pipe, top rad hose and some small wiring to thermo switch as 1.8 is on the rear and 1.6 is front but I have a lad you can talk to that done it recently ,all in1 day .

going to have to rethink this one.
Just did a compression test and got 198, 192, 190 and 192.
I know this the wrong section but could it still be the valves? or simply a dodgy pcv valve?

The pcv wont change the compression whatever about the valves but most likely piston rings or worn cylinder bores.Dont waste your money rebuilding it as it does not work out well really ,according to experts on NUTZ and its major expensive like 1200e to 1500e incl parts and labour ,machining etc.
