Will a mk2 1.8l plug into a mk1 loom, which previously had a 1.8l in it?

No as mk2 has crank sensor at front, cam sensor at front ( no cas that yours has at rear) and different fuel rail/return systems plus other bits like manilfolds are different etc.I presume it could be converted to fit but lot of work. What you trying to do exactly Eoin?

Not a straight swap, but not too much work to make it happen. Swap over your MK1 CAS and fit the MK1 Throttle body & injectors. Turn the Fuel pressure regulator upside down and you are done. Loads of write-ups on other MX-5/Miata forums.

well since i need a new engine anyway, I was thinking of going for a mk2 engine because it is marginably more powerful and modern. But only if it plugged right in. So ill stick with a mk1 1.8L .
Robert, I'm still eager to get the engine off you, but I have to fix another car first and shift it on to pay to fix the mazda.
Anyone want a rare mint 1993 Peugeot 1.4L 106 XT ?? needs an engine, mint otherwise. Im the second owner.

Eh, yes it will . I have one in mine. You need all the old sensors off the mk1 engine and also the throttle body. Get the RS 98-00 Engine as these were the best and they had a fuel return also. Have one in mine years. Get an RPM switch to control the VICS and your flying.
