Ok, long story short: after a mere 10 yrs, I have decided to paint the car. It currently looks, er, like this..........: More, here: http://galwaytt.smugmug.com/Cars/MX-5/6461342_v8tRF#409802716_aVpD7So, looking for suggestions. Am interested in jobs w/stripes, as might go......mad. Paint man is booked, so this is happening, and the children's allowance has been sequestered......... So, all links etc welcome - SO is the driving force behind this.

Know what??? I used to think that I had the worst case of damaged red paintwork, no offence but yours is way worse than mine. Any idea if this was caused by something in particular or is it just down to weathering/oxidation???

offended? me? not possible ! seriously though, it just takes one pinhole for your paint to do that, and exposure to weather. Reason ? Some water gets in the pinhole, 'twixt clear top coat and colour base coat, and from there it's just erosion over time. Next thing you know, big chunks of lacquer are falling off. Basecoat then fades like mad, Ted.
