Exhaust question.....

Hi, I have a 1999 NB 1.6 and I think I have an exhaust leak right at the joint where the rear box joins the pipe coming down from the mid box/cat area. Just wondering, if that pipe needed replacing (flange joint doesn't look good), whether I'd be all right welding a straight pipe there and leaving the back box out of the system altogether? :D

You could but you won't pass your next NCT and the car will sound awful.

We should have good used mk2 rear box if you are going that route

Hey Robert, any 1.8 mk1 cats? I had one on order but the delivery went awol and I may need something in the interim until I work out a refund from the supplier.

I had a look at it yesterday and it looks like it might be further up in the system. I'll have a friend with a garage put it on his life later on today. Ideally I'd like a bit more rasp from the exhaust if I'm going to be replacing components. Would you have anything to suit?

Great, didn't make it in to the garage today, but will do so tomorrow and I'll know what I want. Thanks Robert.

Just got back from the friends garage, apparently what's wrong is that the innards of the rear muffler are loose, and noisy. Would this be an NCT failure? If I'm going to have to get a muffler for this I'd like something with a bit of a rumble to it. Robert, would you have anything to suit?
