Sound dampening project.

Postby Diarmuid » Thu, 06 Mar 2014 10:56 +0000

After a few long journeys and a few planned I have decided to embark on a sound deadning project to attack the road noise. So I have purchased enough Silent Coat Sound Deadening to do the whole car but gonna start in the boot a work forward.
Just wondering if anyone else has taken on this task, if so any tips and results?

Hi Diarmuid, happy to meet up with you today and you showed me that 'Silent Coat' material, it would be very handy in a Turbo'd car due to it's heat reflection properties :)

There was a bit more work involved in this than I expected but so worth it. I have pic's and I will post them, it's well worth doing, the car more solid one on the road, I want to take it on the motorway to see the impact on road noise, but so far so good.

Hello Diarmuid
That "sounds" like a great project ......or not !!!
From your posts you seem happy with the results . Can I ask where you got the material and how much would it cost ,roughly, for the full car. I am working on a 99 mk2 at the minute myself and might be interested in this as another project,
Cheers

Buy it from amazon you'll get free delivery for about €100 all in. Ah you'll be happy with the results it gives a very solid feel, everything goes "thud" instead of "clang". Get the big pack about 40 sheets although I think 50 would have been better to do a full coverage.

Brian, was talking to Jeramy today about this, he will have some new fangled stuff in stock this weekend, very impressed with it apparently. Might be worth a ring for a quote on supply.

Hello Steve
Rang Jeramy about that sound dampening material just now and he is to get back to me in the next few days re. a price .
He is a great fan of it so might consider it now seeing as the car is ripped apart .
Removing the carpet means removing the dash, how big a job is this and where do I start ..I have hammer and a number of long crow bars!
Thanks
Brian

Cool, cause with my 40 sheets of the stuff I didn't have enough to do the doors so I would be interested in doing them with that stuff as well (group buy perhaps?)
