Dampness In footwells

Postby Merlot man » Mon, 19 Jan 2015 10:24 +0000

Hello all
I've been doing some work on the car and removed the seats and lifted the carpet this evening to find dampness in both footwells at the front !
The car is in the garage so it's been there for a while
What are people's thoughts on where it might be coming in or have you seen this in your own car ?
Thanks in advance
Brian

Hi Brain ,check rain rail and drain holes both sides plus the sill drains firstly .No water loss from engine as it may be heater rad/matrix? but most likely not.

Hello Robert
I will check these areas this evening although they should be ok as I cleaned them not too long ago and the dampness is at the front of the footwells close to the bulkhead and ecu . The passenger side is the worse of the two .
I have the under felt in the kitchen at the minute drying by the fire ......oh how the wife likes that !
Thanks again
Brian

Are there drain holes in the doors ,at the top in the rubber seal ,just over the quarter window you will see small pinhole .I ssen it mentioned before on Nutz. Also is the windows travelling uop enough that they cover the soft top rubbers .There is adjustment on the window stops just inside the doorcard at the top.2 x 10mm bolts on sliding holes (elongated vertically)

What took you so long te get back Robert?!
I think the window is traveling up well into the rubber but I will check , those pinholes in the seal/ rubber might be worth investigating though . I will have a good look later after the post dinner tea !
Thanks a mill again Robert

Heater matrix but you would be losing coolant ??Only other area may be the bulkhead ie where the wiper linkage lives but I never seen one leaking there. Maybe you spilt a bottle of water/gargle in it ??

You could try getting someone to put a steady flow of water on the car while your in it and see if you can spot the leak. There might be a drip or flow behind the dash.

Thanks for the replies real reyzor
As it happens the windscreen is cracked on the passenger side so this might have something to do with it .
When I get the car out of the garage I will do the hosing down to see if the shows up anything .
the screen needs to be replaced anyway so it might tell alot .
Thank again for the reply

Brian ,dont forget the heater fan unit ( on extreme left near the door/wing ) seals up to bulkhead so it may be leaking there
