Water Getting Into Boot Jack Side

Hi Guy,


I have just noticed I have a leak which is showing up where the jack is in the boot.
I had a new hood and rail rail fitted 2 summers ago.
I have taken the car out of the garage the last few days when there has been a break in the rain and run a hose over the back of the car.
All i know is it is coming in from the passenger side at the back.
What I dont get is the roof and rain rail are newish so why has this started.
Can the rear window beltine cause this type of problem?
I have removed the hard top fixing plate on that side and filled the 2 screw holes with silicone while I test for the leak that made no difference.
Im at a lose end as to where the water is coming in exactly.
Where can I go to get this fixed?
I dont want to go to my local mechanic as I feel this is a specialised job.
Any help with this would be appreciated

What car do you have Elmer?? Is there any water getting into the cabin? Feel the carpet behind the seats and on the parcel shelf. If it's dry in there that rules out the rain rail and roof. Have you checked if any of the rubber grommets in the boot are missing.

Hi

The car is 1995 MK1
The water is not coming in from the lights it is coming in from the top part of the wheel arch behind the welded plate that covers the petrol filler area.
Going out today and am going to try to locate it. Weather perrmitting.

Just did some testing with a hose.
Had water coming down from the roof and had no leak inside the car.
I had the hose on the boot area and got no leaks but this time I used masking tape on the petrol filler lid.
I think it is coming in from the petrol filler area. I had to stop testing as the light was going and I felt like an ice cube.
I will run it over the petrol filler area tomorrow.
Has anybody heard of this area causing leaks?

Hi Elmar ,you know there is a drain outlet in filler cap .Pop the lid and you will see plastic outlet but this being blocked usually only causes build up of water around tank cap itself and should not leak in to boot area.Check the chrome brackets that would hold the hardtop on ,if fitted, as they have gaskets under them.You can use silicone or similar to seal the area and refit the chrome plates/screws.Aso if there is rust around the bootlid closing area (the piece with the boot lid seal on it, there can be holes from rust etc especially at the welded joints.

Thanks for that. I put silicone under the chrome bracket for the hard top as the gasket was in a bad way I also put a bit of silicone in the petrol filler area.
Checked today and no water thank God.
