It just died!

Postby Paschal » Fri, 22 May 2009 12:20 +0000

Hopped into the office for a minute this evening. When I came out and turned the key, everything just died... I mean everything no power to anything. There seems to be a problem with the negative lead on the battery (I have quick release clamps fitted) so I fiddled around with it and got power back but everytime I turned the key it died again. Sometimes it took a lot of fiddling to get the power back. I had almost given up hope but tried one last time and it fired up. Got home and tried again, nothing! Fiddled again and away it fired again

Is this as simple as a loose connection or could there be something more amiss? Can anyone throw some light on this? (if you pardon the pun). 01 Mark 2.5 1.6. Thanks Paschal

You've kinda solved this one I think. The earth would seem to be the problem, check and make sure that the connection to the car body is good, look for any corrosion and I'd remove and clean all battery contacts.

Good luck

new post clamps shouldn't t only take a min to have fitted, are you a member of the AA? ;-)

Don't know if these fit or not but they look like they'd cover your connection prob & still be quick release (ish).

They are the ones I have. Don't think the connection is my problem. As I say, everything dies when I put it under load and it stays that way. Looks like some type of "short" in the battery. Didn't work again today on a number of occasions, connected it up again and have had no problem since. Have a battery on standby just in case!

Ok was wrong, it was the battery lead after all, the cable had slipped up along the clamp and had lost contact with the clamp!!
