Using Oil - help

Postby CashelMX5 » Thu, 15 Oct 2009 7:55 +0000

On checking the oil this morning it was very low and it took a litre to bring up to the correct level. The car had a full service and oil change approx. four months ago and there is no sign of loosing oil or blue smoke from the exhaust. Is this normal? If not what might be causing this drop in oil level ?

Suggestions and solutions please.

Did you check the level cold or warm? On a level surface??

Thanks for feedback.

Dipped on level surface - engine warm.

Some relief in being told Mazda's inclined to use oil. Hope that is the case with mine. Spoke to mechanic this evening and he also said to keep a regular eye on level.

Maybe Mazda Rotary engines do, but from what I know, Mazda's burn no more than any other jap engine. Mine burn's none, never have or had to top it up.
What oil are you using Tom? I'm a fan of the Mobil 1 stuff myself.

I'd 2 mx5's over the years and never had to top them up.

Could be loosing it like mine is through a split in an engine breather pipe
it seemed to only happen when moving, there was never oil on the ground

Mine needs the odd top up but i'm pretty sure it's leaking through the cam cover and just needs a replacement gasket
