Postby jayryan » Wed, 28 Apr 2010 5:29 +0000

My car has been in the garage for the past two weeks, this is a list of things
That has been done to it.
fuel pump runs w/key on crank,
power at coil,
power in and out of ECU,
have tried a good ECU,
tried the CAS from my car,
cams are turning,
wiggled wires near rear of intake manifold,
wiggled key in ignition,
tried another coil,
pump from running not spark,
Fuses + relays checked,
Changed earth straps
Stripped out all traces of the alarm
Put petrol in the tank
Said a prayer and lite a candle
Ran around the car 15 times
yet still it wont start can anybody help?

You say there is power at the coilpacks, but are they producing spark ? You could pull the leads, connect to spare spark plugs and see. If one pair isn't working and the other is then it's a coilpack problem. If none of the four wires are giving spark then the problem is with the ECU - either it's faulty or more likely it's deliberately not igniting the coils as there's a problem with a sensor somewhere.

Sensor problem would be crank-angle-sensor (mk2+ only I think), cam-angle-sensor, MAF sensor in the air trunking, and temp sensors at front and back of the engine.

Try reading codes off the ECU using this trick with an LED (for MK1s before 1996 - can't remember what your car is): http://www.miata.net/garage/Engine_Diagnostics.html

Cars 1996 and after have an OBDII system - different codes, different way of reading them. You'll need a diagnostics reader. http://www.miata.net/garage/obdii.html
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
