Gearbox rebuildIs there anyone people would recommend to rebuild a gearbox?
Re: Gearbox rebuildPersonally, wouldn't bother. It's probably better to get a descent second hand one. Autocheck on here is a good source for bits and pieces..

Re: Gearbox rebuildI noticed the 6 speed gearbox's make about €400... was thinking for that money that I could just rebuild the gearbox I have. Basically the box was leaking oil and before getting around to fixing it it stopped selecting gears (stupid I know). Anyway I thought for €400 could I not have it rebuilt and that way know It's a good gearbox rather than picking up another second hand one.
Also planning on a turbo build over the winter so was going to look into changing final drive or some of the ratios while I'm at it as I presume there is better options to suit a turbo build. Have to do some research on that still.
Re: Gearbox rebuildCould be something simple as gear selector but if she was leaking for some time and running low on oil could be worn gears etc. Not sure how much it'd cost to rebuild just know it's a fiddly job and most cases people just replace the thing. 6 speed costs bit more than 5 speed. If you're playing with ratios etc. 5 speed might be considerable but 6 speed I hear is stronger, better build. Some research needed as you say. As mentioned above, give Robert a buzz, he might be able to fix you with something.

Re: Gearbox rebuildWe have good low mileage 6 speed or several 5 speeds ,some as new as 2004, with only 70k ish miles.5 speed are only 150e for real good one.6speed are 450e and short supply although we do have 1 only at moment.I also have older cheaper 5 speeds for 100e upwards. To recon your own ,parts plus labour could be up to 600/700e depending on whats wrong with it and also other selectors etc may be worn. The cost is all labour really and it needs gearbox centre to do it really. Not a thing to be messing around with and gearbox has to be removed/refitted and most likely clutch replaced also.Good used box is the way to go. 086 8226506
