Shaky / Vibration at 100 - 120 km/h

Postby Nopon » Tue, 20 Sep 2016 3:35 +0000

Hi guys

was wondering if anyone has had this problem, i own a 2000 Mk 2 and recently i fitted a set of APEX Spring (30mm) and 16" Rota circuit 8 with 215/45R16, however the car has a slight vibration at a certain speed.

I have read a few threads and posts trying to understand what could it be and i got from, misfiring, driveshaft, crankshaft, track rod ends, even videos of exhausts i seen, i do however have also installed a new exhaust system (cat back) ...

Thought it would be tracking and Balancing wheels, but done that today and didn't seem to work.

So not sure what is going on there and obviously it will be only speculations.

Thanks for your help.

Buckled wheel or type damage/out of shape would be my first thing to check. Potholes can distort the tyre shape(roundness). It could be almost anything from wheel not fitted properly to hub(rust etc) or any number of other things. It process of elimination really

Literally got the car aligned and balanced the wheel yesterday .. truth be told there is some superficial rust on suspension arms and sway bars ...

Had tyres balanced before in a garage in Athy. Had a shake between 140k and 165k but got them re balanced in naas and they were perfect. Make sure the person in the tyre center is competent. Alot of them are lazy and only balance them to within 5 - 10 grams. Won't affect most most people as it only shakes at higher speeds.

If it is only since you fitted the wheels/tyres, then it must be wheels and or tyres.
The perfection of a Car's beauty is that nothing should be there for beauty's sake.
