Engine oil change

Hi guys. Has anyone used an engine flush in the engine oil change. This was recommended to me when doing an oil change but I've never used it before. Any comments would be appreciated.
Does it make any difference to a normal oil change.

I have never used one myself, just stuck to regular oil changes. I've read articles both for and against flushing alright... I guess if the car is new to you its probably worth the minor (if any) risk.

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I've had my MX5 for about 2 years now and it's never run very well. I've changed the valve stem oil seals, the cam belt (twice), the oxygen sensors and all the usual stuff that you do when getting a car you've always wanted. I've just spent 600 for some work carried out at a local garage but it still doesn't run properly. The guy put the engine flush in and the amount of white smoke is unbelievable. He said it would clear after 2 days !!

If mk1, did you ever try advancing the timing? Or check for a blocked cat?

Hi aerofoil,welcome, you most likely will get lots of help here if you Post up the symptoms and problems you are having. Not running well shouldn't have anything to do with valve stem oil seals unless they are so bad that they foul the plugs, 2 cam belt changes, sometimes these can jump a tooth (like mine) and if they were replaced without timing the engine from scratch then the replacements will be a tooth out as well. Lots of simple things add up , what model & year is it

Engine flush was used last time oil was changed (I think in June). No adverse affects at all (and defo no smoking as a result of it).

Thanks to all for the info re engine flush. Its still smoking but ive not done a run recently. My MX5 is a 2005 mk2.5 2004. It been off the road for a few week while I try to sort out the fitting of a new window gear to the drivers side a I bought to replace a faulty one damaged by the garage.
I'm still doing that and having problems with the bike cables to the regulator. A real pain in the a--se.
Ah well , its all part of the enjoyment we get from owning an MK5.
