timing belt costs

Postby fez » Sun, 12 Jan 2014 10:56 +0000

How much should I expect to pay for a timing belt to be done on a mk1 1.6? What else is worth doing while it's being done such as water pumpy bits?

Sounds good. The belt that drives the power steering snapped the other day (hence why I decided I best change all the belts). What else runs from that belt? If the alternator or water pump do i'd have to get it towed obviously. Just googled, seems to be the Ps and ac, should it be ok to drive, provided I don't do any 3 point turns?
How many fecking belts does this engine have????

This. Had to drive around for a day like this. Bit annoying in the steering, but doesn't do any damage.

also for the crankshaft seal, how do i know which engine I have? It's a 92 jap import, but the engine could have been changed before I bought it.

I got a gasket too, and I'm having the timing belt kit, pump, pulleys, and gasket all being done at once.
Peace of mind.

Yeah, in the link above theres either 4 or 8 slots, so its short or big nose crank. Seems the short one was only in production for the first year yeah?
