Diff and Gearbox oil - which one?

Postby johnc55 » Thu, 25 Feb 2010 1:38 +0000

Went to buy oil for a diff and g'box change.
Got totally confused.

I think I am looking for 2 litres 75W90 for G'box and 1 litre SAE90 for the diff.

In Halfords, lots of choice for different oils but not at the same rating numbers and to make matters worse, their own oil recommendation chart lists the same oil for both but at a rating of 70W80 or something like that but not the same as what I think I need.

Can anyone recommend a brand/no. for me?
Or will the same do for both?

Don't want to go into the local motor factors and be fobbed off with a 'sure this is just as good and will do for both' kind of answer.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

redline or silkolene are probably the best

I've been using this one in both gearbox and diff, would recommend.

Its available from murray motorsports for 20 a litre (2 for the box 1 for the diff)

Thanks Ger.

Got some redline @ €15 a litre in couture auto. Will try that.
