anyone know whats the quickest/easiest way of finding out what type of diff is on the car, i know where theres a 1999 mk2 1.8 mx5 close to me, his looking for 350 for the diff and halfshafts but i dont know if its an open or an LSD, id nearly pay that for the diff if its LSD but i dont want to take a chance.

Its probably a type 2 . Look thro fill/level hole to check for horizontal worm gears(type2) vertical( type 1) . Hard to see the type 2........all you see are slots whereas type 1 is fairly obvious.

I got my Torsen Type II with all 3 shafts/seals/bolts and also the two rear lower wishbones for 200 euro.....but that was a few years ago so I suppose they've gone UP in price since then

Yeah, people are copping on to them and snapping them up Fergus. I believe that the old Kia Sportage has the same diff in the front axle. Straight swap with just a change of the Crown Wheel. Must be plenty of them about .........you would still need prop and shafts tho.

yeah it seems to have one if its a 1.8 and all the spec matches mine also tried a little spin of the wheels in an empty car park and it left two very even tyre marks
and it has the fins and the rubber dampner on the diff casing
