it means its not the best..should you get rid of it....yes,i would try and get a standard one from a breakers yard.

all you need is a timing light gun to check your timing dude....reset to the standard 10 deg, however if you get a standard intake cam sprocket you will have to redo your timing belt...not a huge job but then you know your car is fine timing wise.

Thanks for posting the pic ...its scary what some people make to put on their cars, this makes me sad.

it would be fair to say noone knows if its safe until you get a timing light onto it to see whats happening

You need the intake camshaft sprocket.
When you fit it you might aswell do a timing belt and waterpump but if it has been done recently , dont bother , just refit the belt and reset the timing

I think 10 degrees refers to the ignition timing Paul.

Inlet Cam timing should be 5 degrees BTDC and god knows what its set at with that yoke of a pulley.

I have a couple of pulleys if your near Drogheda.

Do get it off tho as you dont know the timing figures and the seller should have explained if the cam was advanced or retarded and by how much and what gains it yielded.

it would be interesting to know how the car idles and how it drives at low rpm , then how it does on the motorway top end

im guessing it will idle very poorly or very very hard on petrol, possibly both

once replaced , change your spark plugs too

Yes but the timing light will show you where your ignition timing is set at. Standard is 10 deg btdc but most people set it at 14 deg btdc for better low end response and pick up. A timing light will not show the cam timing setting but if its idling ok dont worry too much . I would still get rid of that pulley as it looks home made and of questionable quality.
