he is probably on about a Vernier Cam Pulley. Nice if combined with a higher lift cam on the intake side. Worth about 7bhp if set up correctly. Really need to know what your doing tho if you start adjusting things.

take the cam cover off and have a look, post a pic or two on here and we can tell you who makes them and maybe find you some instructions too

If you dont know what you are doing with an adjustable cam , put the spanner down and step away from the car as there is a good chance you will fuck something up.

Yeah, wouldn't be bothered with it. It'll let you tune the engine for high RPM (but then it won't idle or won't have any power whatsoever at low revs), or tune for low rpm (lots of low down torque but it won't be revvy at all. Not great for emissions either, all of this !

True Frank but will also let you set timing to what it should be also . Impossible with standard pulleys .

Well, its a bit complicated if you dont understand cam timing in particular TDC Cam timing but this allows you to adjust the opening point of the inlet cam irrespective of the factory pulley/block marks to set the cam timing to the optimum when set against a disc fixed to the crank pulley.

The standard set up is good but combined with other mods particularly head work and different cams, it allows no adjustment to get the optimum whether it be mid range torque or holding onto torque higher up the rev range ( a screamer).

Vernier Pulleys allow you to do this. But, they are useless on a standard engine unless other mods are done. Fuel cut on mk 1's is 6900 and no amount of fiddling will get any more power above this.

Yeah, a very crude Vernier Pulley without the Vernier marks.
