missing and loseing power

when i start my mx5 cold or even just turned off for 10 mins when i drive it misses an loses power as if it is runing out of petrol it wil chock for a few yards on the road and then go ok and take off like a rocket what would be rong
i was told it was the sensor on the excust wud this be right

It could be the O2 sensor, dirty fuel filter or ignition leads need to be changed.
I'd change the leads and filter anyway to start, then look at the O2 sensor.

ah, you've got some googling to do :D

The 02 sensor is , as it says, a sensor that measures oxygen levels and such like , it's fitted on the exhaust system and transmits info back to the ECU ( computer that basically controls the engine). If this sensor is faulty it will send back false information, and the ECU will therefore send subsequent false instructions to the engine, and you will have erratic operation...

replacement is usually quite simple , but have someone competent check out the car first.
