question for a mate - non Mx5

Postby shenab » Sat, 06 Oct 2012 8:53 +0000

Hi Gang

A mate of mine has an issue with squeaking gears and would like to have a go before bringing to the garages. I was wondering if you would give you opinion or if you need more info?

When he change gears (1 & 2 mostly) it sometimes squeaks.
He was told it's lines attached to particular gears which have to be oiled and wanted to try to solve the problem himself.
When he lifts the cover of gear stick he can see the stick sitting on the ball, which is positioned in the box.

Question - can he open the box to spray some oil in safely or will it fall apart and will be really hard to be put together again? Or can he just put some oil on the ball and it will get to the right places itself?

thanks a lot
S

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Female population... I've had that response from a certain female acquaintance on more than one occasion ( this person SHALL remain nameless!!)
