Hi,
Im looking for any guidance!
I have what sounds like a whistling noise coming from the behind the passenger side (LHS) of my soft top 2007 MX5. Ive had the bearings done, noise still exists.
The noise increases the faster I go. The noise level can also depend on the road surface i.e.. smoother surface = less noise, rough surface = louder noise.
Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried swopping the front wheel on that side with the rear wheel incase its the tyre valve?
When were the rear brakes last services?
Neither would explain why different surfaces make a difference though (unless its resonance I guess) but better to start with the simple stuff.

Brake pads worn down to squealer level perhaps?

This is a stab in the dark but here goes..... I have a 2007 also. I developed a similar sound took me 6 months to figure out. On the mk3 there is a drain for the soft top that needs to be cleared once in a while. On it's exit under the car it has a small rubber none return valve that you can feel with your little finger. If that valve becomes inverted for what ever reason then road noise will be heard in the car. Mine sounded the same as yours and it changed at different speeds and road surfaces and even if it rained...... Drove me nuts...... I even stuck a snake eye camera from work down the drain to prove it to myself and it was inverted....
Sorted it by putting the old trombone cleaner down the drain top to bottom one way and it re seated the valve.....
look at these threads from other forums .......
http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=389787Mazda actually did a mod on these valves but I can't find the link.......
Well not sure if this will solve your problem but sounds very similar to the one I had and as I said drove me nuts...... Hope this helps if only to show you where to clean your drains once in a while.....Again if you find the exit and stick your little finger in you should feel the valve. Compare driver side to passenger side....

Thanks all, appreciate your time.
Ive had the breaks checked, there fine. Thanks anyway pjmazda.
Ill look into swapping the wheels, cheers Steve.
I had the drains cleared last July, they could be blocked again after the winter. As it happens I have a trombone cleaner ( not that Im musical in anyway). I look into this pretty soon and let you know how I get on. Fingers crossed.
Cheers Warren.

I would do the drains yourself .... If they push back and forth thinking they are cleaning more it will invert the valve.... You have to push it down one way and not drag it back if you know what I mean...... Think might be your problem ....As I said drove me nuts...

I cleared the drains no luck, the noise is still there. Back to the drawing board.
Cheers for the advice
