Gearoil change in a 6 speed box

Postby Merlot man » Thu, 01 May 2014 9:41 +0000

Hello all ,
Im looking at this job and was wondering where the filler and drain plugs are on the 6 speed ,there seems to be alot of torx bolts on the gearbox .
I've done it on the 5 speed before and the plugs are easy to find ,last thing i want to do is unblot the wrong bolt and the box to blow up!
Any advice /pictures would be great .
Thanks in advance
Brian

You can fill up the gearbox from the turret/shifter, it's way easier than on the 5 speed!

Thanks Nico ,Deivis told me the same thing and that makes complete sense .
I am assuming it takes 2l of gear oil ?

Yes, they say 2 quarts in the US, so 2 bottles of 1l

Brain ,I have a workshop extract page and be careful as the filler cap is tricky. If you remove the wrong one you will lose 5th and reverse gear and box has to be stripped and refitted as some spring etc drops in to box........11Warning!!!

That is what I was afraid of Robert but I assume that filling it from the top through the turrent will be safer ?
Where is the drain plug, I know it must be on the bottom! I was told by Dievis that its a 22/3 mm normal hex bolt and NOT any of the torx bolts .Is this correct?
Thanks in advance

That's a very good guide. Wouldn't mess with any plastic hoses tho. Fill through gear lever turret..less mess and gives you a chance to check dust boots as they seemingly don't last very long.
