Mk2 1.8 rs into mk1 1.8

Postby scallan » Sat, 28 Nov 2015 11:57 +0000

Have a mk1 1.8 here and the headgasket is on the way out. Is it much hardship putting in a mk2 1.8 from rs into it as have 1 sitting in the garage??

Hi James, I have been told its easy enough.Fit the mk1 wiring and fuel lines /injector rail etc as mk2 is different. Also put your own CAS sensor in to mk2 head.If I remember correctly I think the manifolds are higher up on the mk2 head for better flow etc so thet might leave your front ex pipe needing extension??Also the mk2 has 4 into 2 into 1 ex manifold and mk1 is usually 4 in to 1 so you will have to weld in section etc.Bottom end is same really. Both are still BP series engines anyway.

Ive done it. Its an easy swap and a much better engine.
