Release bearing conundrum

Postby JasoNA » Mon, 01 Aug 2016 8:59 +0000

Need help. Are there different size release bearings across the versions? I have a 1.6 with 1.8 flywheel, disc and pressure plate but the release bearing seems too small for the pressure plate diaphragm. I ordered a new Mazda one which was listed for all models but its too small too. The gap in the middle 1.6 diaphragm is 40mm but the one on the 1.8 one I have is around 50mm.

As it sits now, the fingers of the diaphragm are rubbing against the outer edge of the release bearing and not the inner rotating edge as they should be.

Think I had that before in a kit I bought. It's from mazda 323 not mx5 and also check the cover plate as it was also wrong although it did say mx5 on the packaging. The bearing must be sitting on fingers of pressure plate
