Gearbox rattle

Postby 93 Mk1 » Sat, 21 Oct 2017 9:27 +0000

Since first taking ownership of my current MX (many moons ago !), I've always a rattle on the over-run coming from
the gearbox area. At times I thought it may have been a loose heat shield etc. but after doing some research it seems
the 1.6 models are really prone to this. Reasons vary from iffy clutches to PPF alignment.
I've listened to it for so long now that I've acclimatized to it and don't really notice it. Then passengers bring it back
to my attention  So I'm thinking I'm going to put it on the "to do" list and see if I can quieten matters down.
Have any of you encountered this problem yourselves ?

Check PPF alignment firstly. No cost and only takes approx 15 minutes. This definitely causes noises but the mx5 are prone to rattles etc from drive train

Will do guys and cheers for the input. It's been there since I bought the car years ago but I've never tried to solve it.
