Gear shift turret boots

[93 Mk1]

I need to do some jobs to the inside of the car over the next month or so, so while I'm at it, I think I'll do the turret oil and rubber boots. Apparently, the OEM Mazda rubber boots have the life span of a chocolate fireguard. Have any of you used any alternatives ? For what they are, the genuine Mazda ones are €€€ ! I'd get over that though if I thought they would last.

Mx5 parts have the full kit for £40 +post. Not sure if quality but I would think that they wouldn’t sell crap without everyone saying it

They are the Mazda items which apparently don't last ! I've read of them not even lasting 12 months. One of the US sites suggests using the NC lower boot which I'm all for trying. The upper boot is another story. I remember Dr. MX5 selling silicone type boots but I heard they were great either.
If nothing else is available then I'll probably get that type from MX5 Parts UK.

Dr Mx5 silicone ones are dirt.I got few of them and the quality is shi*e. Maybe you could fab up something from another brand of car ?? Call to a breakers and see if you see anything suitable ,even if you had to use your existing base plate section (bolted to floor)

Yeah, I think I remember you mentioning the Dr. MX5 ones before. I read somewhere previously that somebody adapted a boot from some type of VW but I've no idea which model. Just thinking now maybe something non-rubber might be an option for the upper boot.

No real reason why boot off any other brand of manual would not fit?? Most manuals have same gear layout etc .Its really down to fitting correctly .As long as its bolted to floor it should suit fairly well?? Another Rear Wheel Drive might be best to try as Front wheel drives usually have linkage/cables attached to gear lever, so complicated boot /console set up.Maybe old BMW 3/5 series manual.Local breakers would be place to start

I used one from jass over on the nutz site , looks like better quality than the mazda item ,basically a drive shaft boot on a base plate . it might be worth a look .
