EGR replacement on a 2006 1.8 NC

My wife's 2006 NC has been in the habit of throwing up a P0403 error after being laid up for a week or so when on holiday or whatever. Usually a brisk drive followed by clearing it with my OBDII scanner solves it and it goes away until the next time it's unused for a while.

Anyway, the last time it happened was over Christmas, and it's not going away this time, so time for a replacement.

It's not something I really want to tackle myself as I understand it's a PITA to get to due to it's placement, requiring removing wipers and taking apart parts of the scuttle under the windscreen etc. and even then you need some special articulated spanner or something.

Can anyone recommend me a good mechanic familiar with MX-5's and this job in particular, preferably in the South Dublin / N. Wicklow area, but further afield is also possible, that could do this? What would be the approximate cost be do you think?

Looks like an expensive problem, https://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_posts ... ngine.aspx
Might be worth trying some cleaner first, I’ve had very good results using archoil dpf cleaner on my avensis. There’s a product for petrol might be worth trying https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3023342147

Yes, I've seen that post, and good few others on the same topic. Thing is, I'm not convinced it's the EGR valve itself, but maybe just the solenoid that's screwed, as it's essentially an electrical problem, although I can imagine that if it is gummed up, it could be reluctant to move which could cause the solenoid to malfunction and give a spurious fault.

I might try and see if I can just get away with replacing the solenoid if I can get hold of a cheap replacement.

That tip on the Mondeo one being the same but significantly cheaper looks like the way to go.

Yes, I saw that, sounds like a good plan.
