New tyres

Postby eyore » Mon, 21 Nov 2011 8:39 +0000

Got some new Uniroyal Rainsport 2s fitted the other day 195x50x15s €70.00 ea inc disposal of oldies and balancing. These are great tyres for Ireland where it is more usuallt wet than dry. I have always liked Uniroyals but these Rainsport 2s are really good.

£48 a corner here in 15"
ive been using them for the last 4 years and would'nt use anything else.
They launched a new rain expert tyre a while ago but im undecided about it yet.

the only downside with the rainsports are a very soft sidewall and increased road noise but thats nothing to awesome wet performance , no aqua planing and good braking distances.

toyos - no thanks , i wouldnt use take them if they were free.

on my 350 z a full set of rainsports 18" is £630 :(

im using Firehawk SZ 90 on the front and you cant beat them for grip. Had a set on the back for a while and had to really push it to get sideways and not badly priced either at €60

I put all four Rainsport2s over year and a half ago and I've never experienced such a dramatic change of car's performance, a different car. Granted the replaced tyres were not too good anyway, I think Matador but still a massive change. I never used Uniroyals before but this tyre is pure grip any weather, except on compressed snow as V shapes are no good for snow especially on a light rear wheel drive car like mx5. Bought them from eiretyres.com, about 50 euros vat and delivery to a fitter in Dublin included.

On my 3rd set of Rainsports with the MX5 (could only find them in 16inch in stock on www.blackcircles.com), also have them on the CLK, agree with the above, amazing in the wet (good in the dry too), have soft sidewalls so you feel a little more "lean" initially.
