oil filter!!!!!my god did i have some fun trying to get my oil filter off last friday. after about an hour and a half i finally got a bit of grip with the oil filter wrench. does any1 have any easy remedy for this in future?
I find a bit of wet n dry paper over the filter allows you to get a good grip on it. Worked well on the last couple i did. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
I hear (I haven't tryed) but if you replacing the air filter like what i'll be doing soon, you can use a screw driver... striaght through... Good Idea me think Never knew what fun was till I found the MX5
ill have a try of the wet and dry paper next time anything would have been easier than what i did.
the screw driver straight through was definately on my mind but there wasnt much space at all to do it
I tried the screwdriver on the starlet and it's not that easy to drive a screwdriver through a filter whilst its still in the car. This is when i started with the sandpaper and it came straight off. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
On the Mk1 there's a metal support bar which runs beside the oil filter up to the throttle body, take it off and you'll be able to get a full hand around the filter.
BTW you don't have to put the bar back on, it's not really needed.
Help!!! I need help. I messed my oil filter so bad that I can't drive. I was trying to remove it and don't have the proper tool. so can some one help me? I'm in swords. I have a new oilf filter I just need to get it off and I'm to week to twist it. can't actually get in there... HELP!!!
Thanks... sorry Never knew what fun was till I found the MX5
tried turning it with a rubber glove on?
I've used the screwdriver method in the past (punch/hammer screwdriver through the filter).. messy tho You could also pick up one of the chain/rubber band type removers from most motor factors.. This is what they look like : http://search.ebay.ie/search/search.dll ... ter+wrench Also, you could put the car on jackstands and remove the driver's side wheel.. might get a better angle on it.. Steve
OK well I got the right tool today but It was for audi and other cars. so to big for me. So I have to go back and change it... Arg. I took the wheel off. not good. and now the out side of the filter is messed from the screw driver method... I'm going to cry. Never knew what fun was till I found the MX5
 The screwdriver method didn't work?
