Went for a few short spins to work - all with top down though - lovely - what did you think of the MkII John, compared to your own - you thinking of changing ?

Yup, enjoyed it, would like to have one for a week or something though to form a more informed opinion. The 6 speed box is fun (and going into 6th is a bit of a leap of faith as it feels like you are going from 5th to reverse ;-) )

No, not thinking of changing just checking out a rattle for someone.

Compared to MK1s I've owned/driven (my current one probably isn't the best comparison ;-) ), its more insulated, more power (altho thats 1.8 vs 1.6), better seats, larger steering wheel, the bushings seem softer (altho this could just be age), love the 6 speed gearbox (def going to replace my 5 speed with one when it goes bang), no popups :-(

Steve,

I agree not continuing the pop-ups was a major faux pas on the MKII- Six speed box is great on motorway/dual carraigeway driving - the seats in the 10ae I don't think are as comfy as those that were on my MKI - my wife still preferred the autobox on the MKI - she can't get used to the 6-speed box and so does'nt like driving it - which is a bit of a shame.
