Hi, This sounds a strange request, but I reckon the MX5 owner’s club is probably the best place for advice My son met his Irish fiancée, in Sydney , Australia when he was working over there 4 years ago. On his first date, he managed to borrow a red Mazda MX5 convertible to try and impress her……………and it worked. They are to be married at New Ross church on Aug 2nd 2012. Obviously the MX5 has a special significance for them. As a surprise he is desperately trying to find somewhere where he can hire a Mazda MX5 to take her from the church in New Ross, to Foulksmill, County Wexford where the reception is. He was really getting disheartened last night as he has had no success so far , and I know it would mean so much to Aoife. I have trawled the internet myself and it would appear that there is nothing available even in Dublin. I haven’t tried Mazda / Ireland yet, and maybe that’s worth a try sometime. I would just love to make their wedding day special for them. My son has a full UK Driving licence, is aged 30, and is a named driver on my UK Insurance Policy. Specific insurance can be arranged if we can locate one to hire Anyway........many thanks for reading this...............a Honda Jazz just wouldn't be as romantic !! Pete Shenton :

What a brilliant idea. I wonder if we could arrange a convoy on the day??? To be more specific, are you looking for a particular model and colour?? John

Wow a convoy.............now there's a wonderful thought........can we guarantee "hood down" weather in August !!. I can post a photo of the one that "brought them together" when I get home, but I'm afraid at this point in time, all I know is that it was Red........what a Philistine I am !!

Run, definately.
If you can provide more info here. Things like: did it have popup lights or integrated lights? Do you have a picture so we can see which club member might have something similar?

There could be insurance implications if anyone was to "hire" a private car out to you, but I'd say that we could arrange a "loan" of a car for the short journey..I'm open to correction on this.

Hi all, this is the only photo I have of the MX5 my son had. I know it was an older model and it had pop-up lights. My insurance policy would cover my son for driving in Europe but we would need to contact them to insure a specific vehicle for a given short period of time. Thanks again to you all for your interest in helping us out!

Thats a Mk 1 eunos, almost identical to my car... mine has a boot rack and alloy wheels. Im sure there are several similar cars in the club. Insurance is a must, but the "hire" could be circumvented by a donation to a nominated charity? MaXimu5

Of course...if this all works out to be feasible, I would be more than willing to make a charitable donation, and Insurance, likewise, would have to be arranged by us. Once again, many thanks for your interest, I am somewhat stunned by the response........I was only expecting someone to tell me where we could hire one !
Kind Regards

Hi folks, Hope ye had a nice Xmas and best wishes for the New year. To fill ye in on this post, Peter has been in touch with me and all going well his son can borrow my mx5 on the day, Thur 9th August 2012. I am just a bit concerned that due to unforeseen circumstances I might not be able to make it on the day. I wonder if anyone would be available as back up... Peter is willing to donate to the owners chosen charity. (Galway Hospice in my case) Some of you have expressed an interest in a "run", maybe we could arrange one for that weekend, say Hook Head lighthouse and the Copper Coast of Waterford to Dungarvan? What ye think? MaXimu5
