MX5 Pride is....

Postby valred » Sun, 29 Jun 2008 8:11 +0000

Growing up watching Macgyver I could never quite figure out was my facination with Richard Dean Anderson or the way he could make a bomb out of chewing gum and a paper clip but the show inspired me to always fiddle with watches that broke or radios etc etc.

Fast forward twenty odd years and I had a 'Macgyver Moment' today. As noted earlier I have to put Eddie in for an NCT retest for his headlights and driver elec window. Well, headlamps were done a few weeks ago but received the motorset on Friday so I decided today was the day.

It took me almost two hours to undo the old electric motor and arm and get it out of the car. As predicted the cables were shot but suddenly a problem arose. The new system was completely different and the motor was chunkier. Added to this three of my fingers were cut to pieces and I was using language not suitable for a lady or a Sunday!!!

But I am stubborn.........and four hours later.........I am really proud of myself to say I have just installed my first electric window motor and arm. Now, I STILL can't name a thing under the bonnet..(well, engine aside) so I am having a self-congratulatory moment.

Very sore hands now in need of some severe attention but now I can get that blasted yellow square in my window!

Well fair play to you. Nice cold beer (or glass of wine) is deserved this evening.
Good job

Hi Gentles and Ladybirds,
John..........Keys today.....moved some things in though had to strangle solicitor to get the keys...(no witnesses!!!)

Fergus...I am nearly afraid to watch Macgyver again....I think I would be too cynical and spot all the flaws!!!!! It could ruin the memories!

Ivan.....now that I am a trained window electrician I am going to specialize and fit them for the summer. I think we should all train up on one part of the car and then be an expert available for hire!

On to second bottle of bubbly now...........sigh.......yes it is Monday.........yes most of you have to work tomorrow...........yes I am a wagon.........................but hey :P

Val - well done on the window motor & all the other mods - and good luck with the new abode. Sounds to me like you should be hosting a tech-day sometime soon :)
Since you probably only have 50-60 days hols left ... enjoy!
