when you declare the car (vrt it) and put the new irish plates on.......how long till you get called for NCT?

or do you have to contact them (the nct ppl) to have it NCT'd?
I've never imported a car this old to know?

thanks,

Ollie.

Ollie,
You will have to contact them yourself as there is no history of the car in Ireland. The best thing to do is bring all your car documentation along to your nearest NCT centre and they will enter all the details on computer.

AFAIR they actually rang the NCT central booking office and got an appointment for me. Just as well really as my insurance company would only cover me for 1 month until I got it NCTd.....eventually got sorted.

HTH
Regards John.

Also Ollie make sure the vrt office stamp the form they give you for the motor tax office. They dont always stamp it and then the NCT office will not accept your documents until you have the Irish Vehicle Registration Cert which takes a few weeks to be processed after applying for road tax......When importing a car I leave the vrt office with my form stamped and bring it straight over to nct office where they put my car on the system immediately. Then I get the car taxed. It means the process of nct-ing is much faster doing it this way. I hope I havnt made this sound complicated. I have imported many cars and know the procedure like the back of me hand. Your welcome to give me a shout anytime re.same.
Cheers,
Padraig

They are going to VRT you at one rate then Road tax you at another?

Is it because you are an english citizen?
Did you get it in writing from your VRT office?

No its not because i'm english and no i don't have it in writing.
Its just what it says on the websites. I am not saying that it is 100% correct but if you take the time to read the two sites that i linked to one re tax and one re vrt then you will see what i am saying.

Sorry but what you are saying is not correct.
I have just spoken to the vrt office and also the citizens advice
they have both confirmed that,
A 1992 mx5 imported from Japan and registered in Ireland after July 2008 will be subject to 36% vrt as there is no emissions data available however the car will remain on the old system of motor tax. Only NEW cars (i.e cars never registered anywhere in the world) will have there motor tax band determined by the co2 emissions form july 2008.
if you want to ring them yourself then

i did i spent ages yesterday ringing the santry office.
And thats what they told me.

Just ring two friends who are main dealers.
One said he didn't know anymore, they keep changing there minds
The other said if it goes by the c02 thats it.

Think we will have to wait till july.
No wonder no one is buying cars.

I shudder, when i think of the lisbon vote.

There is a few drinks in it for you Ash if you are right :)

Hi Ash,

ehhhhhhhhhhhh.............NO!

As much as i like being part of the mx5 community here........I'll think with my pocket and get her all VRT'd up etc before july 1st.
I'm too tight to get hammered for 36% and risk 2k to tax it per year - like I'm from CAVAN FFS!

Come on Ollie, thats not really in keeping with the club spirit.
You could do a picture write up for the Tech section.

I think we should have a vote.
