Cloggy

why don't you start up a post giving us an idea of prices etc. Stephen might be able to provide the artwork and then you will have a better idea of numbers and perhaps even get stuff sorted for the run if it's not too late?

You could even do it as a poll to see what people would prefer.

I personally would love a fleece, not sure Mazda would cough up the number of jackets needed for all of us and I think a fleece is always handy .. and a polo .. and a cap .. hell I just want MX5 clothes!!

Well I think its a massive opportunity for Mazda to show to the Public that their cars are so good that we are still driving them nearly 20 years after and that they still have good engines and bodies etc. Mondello is a given anyways maybe they could do something mad like have a national competition for all five owners to win a MK III for a year or something? That or do something practical and make them reduce the cost of parts to save us having to buy em all in the UK?

Just to point out that they were just an example of a jacket that i found on the net.
You could buy yourself one of them but they were expensive!!

I've dug out my old polo - given it a quick wash - will bring it to the Midlands run next weekend, if I can make it !!

Jackets are very nice, fleece would be nice, new polo would be nice, cap would be nice, but only if they come in Blue.............

I really think we should be thinking bigger than jackets!!

Ive been thinking and one thing we could ask them to do is not only a track day in Mondello where we get to drive our fives around the track but firstly they bring a couple of MKIII's to the circuit for us to drive and test out. Secondly we could ask for some help with the website and possibly promo of gaining new members. Thirdly maybe they could look into getting a stage of the MAX5 racing over to Mondello. This is a massive opportunity for us. In all the years Ive been in the club on several occasions we have all tried to contact Mazda and had no positive feedback, no the we have I think we should ask for stuff that both is in our interest but it also has to be in theres. There not going to put money into something unless they can get media spin or something.

We need to be a stronger group. Hopefully the Midlands run will prove (turnout dependant) that we are a serious but responsible bunch of mazda heads!

To be Honest lads I wouldnt be particularly pushed one way or another about a fleece, but you can count me in if it happens. Overall though have we come to any conclusions about how to get something for nothing from Mazda!! As I said before Id be thinking of having a shot at a discounted mx5 only track day or something along those lines. I would guess that seeing as they are so heavily involved with Mondello it would be a great opportunity to organize something that might not be possible otherwise. Its something I have always liked the idea of, and in the past I have seen a BMW enthusiasts track day as well as other clubs.

Just for the record although i work in the school in Mondello, I wouldnt stand to gain financially in any way from something like this in fact I am willing to pay for it. I just think it would be a great idea.

The whole clothing thing is just a carry over from previous discussions that got caught up in the discussion about mazda wishing to meet us. Obviously they are going to explore the pr side of things and I think we should wait and see exactly what thay have in mind. As Mr. Rigley was their initial point of contact, can I suggest that he and maybe one or two others act as our, and I hate to use the word, "official " representatives.

If we don't present some form of organisation to these guys..they'll be gone. Any volunteers??
At the risk of offending a lot of members, I think that some of the longer serving members would be more suited to this task .

Your comments please

BTW.. I don't consider myself as one of the longer serving members, and I'm on holidays at the time of the midlands run 8)

I think you guys are right in what you are saying. From talking to steve I think that the idea of them coming to meet us in the midlands is so we can have a chat. I am sure that they have some ideas about what they could do with us. I am pretty sure that steve said that two guys are coming one of them being a PR/marketing guy so they must have something in mind.

OK, Well - I like this club, I like my car, I like all the cars, I like the people, I like the website/forum , the craic, the buzz of the runs, the rasp of my exhaust pipe - its a positive outlet and hobby for me.

But many points of interest have been raised so far - and i'd like to interject for a moment -

Re; appointing representatives to explore and meet with mazda Irl, this is good idea - a free for all of peole taking to Mazda will not work.

However, the point John has made "At the risk of offending a lot of members, I think that some of the longer serving members would be more suited to this task" :? - ahhhhhh FFS ?!?!?-

Well, i don't agree with this, sorry John, but i do understand your angle and respect you as a member.

For example - I'm a member since early this year - so, i'm not a long serving member - but so what? When i joined here and went and meet and chatted with people, i heard of all the hassles of the past.
SO, I could have just joined - and held off in the background checking the site every month or so and added little to the club and went to the ODD RUN. I could have also NOT BEEN ARSED to organise the up and coming midlands run - but i did as a new member.

But, I believe and know with others here (people here know the names of regular posters here and meet organisers) who are PASSIONATE about this club and their cars. SO, like these other good members, I'am PROACTIVE, post on the forum, contribute, organise runs etc, when others probably DO HANG BACK, which is regrettable.

I intend to be a part of this club going forward for a long time please god.
However, as a business professional, I'm a marketer (to run and launch and to consult to radio stations you have to be), a negotiator and innovator -but because I (or any of our new fresh blood) have'nt been here for the last 5 years or so, We or I are not qualified? CODSWALLOP!

Old Stock and new blood ehhhhhhhhh?!?! Look to the future PPL- DRIVE this thing on. IMHO - its new thinking and new blood that will drive this club on.
Now - There's a cat amongst the pigoens! DISCUSS!!!!! :D

Good point Ollie, and goes to show why we have no official representatives of the club. It just doesn't work. As far as i am concerned we are all official reps for the club new and old. As for talking to Mazda yes i agree that if we all go and talk at the same time then we won't be heard at all. Steve has thus far done a great job in running and updating the site & forum etc and is also been the guy talking to Mazda. Now I'm not saying that he should be the soul person to talk to Mazda and I wouldn't like to speak for him and say that he would even like to take on the responsibility however imho if it ain't broke don't fix it.

+1

I think Steve is doing a great job as is..........and he has a relationship developing with the Mazda ppl as they contacted him, so why interfere with it? There is a danger here that "too many cooks WILL spoil the broth"!
