Thanks Guys,
Mechanic has done the lot now. New discs and Pads all round .. bushes and 2 new tyres.
He did mention what our tester "found" up to recently and even now in another test center would have passed. So based on this testers focused fine detail on my MX he went over and over and extra to be sure this time. I will get a full detail off him about his thoughts and post here for others.
It does seem the NCT guys getting way more focused on discs etc ... even down to rust on the discs, so drive the car well before hand.
BTW Im not trying to wangle my way out of this .. everything is hands up for me here. Just trying to pass on info for other MX owners maybe to note that the NCT is getting more difficult for us MX owners with older cars?
Re the worn tyre .. I hauled up the mechanic about that. He said he was surprised because IT WAS NOT down that far over a month ago when I did my pre-NCT service. He did mention ( whether right or wrong? ) that the MX has a tight / sharp turning and it is Rear Wheel Drive which can go through tyres faster than FWD? In my case I changed her tyres ( all 4 ) in Sept 2017. Mileage wise about 15000km per yr.
Anyway - retest next Monday at 1pm, so all should go good then. Will need to "drive-in" the new discs/pads etc over next few days. If not the NCT slip test may fail .. I am told?

OK,
Here is what was done for my MX for the retest next Monday:
Replace rear brake discs. Replace rear Brake pads. Replace Rear tire. Replace rear anti roll bar bushes. Replace rear suspension drop links.
I have ordered another 3 tyres which will be in end of the week next week. Two tyres are at 3mm ( Advisory ) and one other passed fine.
RE the brakes/discs - explanation is "Worn/insufficient contact between brake pad and disc"
Just to also say we are living outside a country town in Cork, I have to say I am for last while doing more and more dodging potholes to the point I now know where most of these are. However recent weather is opening new ones and also opening existing ones which are all tmp patched.

You've been fairly comprehensive in your efforts to appease them Best of luck in the test!

Took my 4 year old ND with 13,000 kms for it's first NCT today and got a FAIL. I had fitted one of these, fade in sun strips to the windscreen. https://www.halfords.ie/motoring/car-accessories/exterior-styling/anti-glare-fade-in-strip---black-120463.html I fitted it soon after I got the car 4 years ago and never found it obstructing my view. Under Visual Defects, it read Windscreen--Obstruction inside wiped area. Once I had pealed off the sun strip and showed them the clear windscreen, I got my PASS cert. Even though the strip faded to clear at the bottom there was still an area inside the wiped area that was too dark. It was a surprise, even my mazda mechanic hadn't picked up on it.

Did the wiper sweep into the sunscreen by much? I think some of the testers think there's a bonus scheme for the amount of fails they can find, my daughters car failed on a very corroded brake pipe, it had more dirt on it than rust, gave it a rub of sand paper and a coat of clear rust treatment and it passed no problem

had my 99 tested after 4 yrs in storage. Failed surprise surprise !!! headlight alignment. rusty passenger wing , and rust on each door. I have the wings to replace already. Got quote 150 side for the welding, the NCT guys said they tighneted up on rust recently. these all passed for all the NCT i did previously. I got a rought quote of 150e per side to path the doors james. Anyone seen rust here before, i always thought it was an odd spot, a mechanic before said it must have set idle for a couple of years at some stage with water collecting here. Same on both sides. https://photos.app.goo.gl/5wtEDrGGH5ijECTeAhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/r5fh6Cduc2vKaWKK6

Eagle eyed inspector to find the rust on the door. It looks like the door had a crack which led to the rust forming more than a crack caused by rust, haven't heard of the wing being a fail before but that seems to be a common area for it

re the door, wow, eagle eyed is right. That kit is interesting, even without the turbo its prob worth it for the fittings + intercooler. Non-branded turbo is a bit of a gamble tho

Pass restest wooohoo !! Just ready for the winter. I had the two doors patch welded. The NCT guy called me in cause he coudent find it and said it was an exceptionally good job on it !! I had two matching wings i bought a few years ago on hand whcih were replaced, I also undersealed the whole arch area while it was off. interestly the passenger side arch is not sealed from factory and had rotted out (see picture) the replacements were the same too (but not rotted), I put underseal on the rear of the wings too, and stripped any rust in arches (very little) and treated the rust (Kurust acid) and sealed with hammerity underbody seal. Messy stuff, i painted on but will spray next time. I'm going to underseal rest of underbody all over the winter in stages. Loving my new garage space too, have a little helper too who loved reorganise anything eh can get his hands on The headlights test failed too and were causing me a bit of grief but got alignment done and they behaved long enough to pass too thankfully. There is definitely a short there somewhere as it blowing bulbs and the drivers side dip randomly wont work. The garage guy said best to replace both bulb holders and maybe check earths. https://photos.app.goo.gl/fZ2NPc9cEZE39hJm6https://photos.app.goo.gl/iPfuYJyMmkaDgQRbA https://photos.app.goo.gl/RA881WGbHWN6Qro56https://photos.app.goo.gl/vTw2L96XL72ZCr4x7https://photos.app.goo.gl/1tGPPbzfsojZeK827Still think about the compressor POPD but think il pass & get a 50L one, thanks for offer tho
