colm, how are things.

before owning a 5 i had a lancia from 77 with black plates and polished silver lettering, legal on pre 87 cars, it was almost impossible to get a flash to shot the plate, never got a speeding fine in 6 years driving.

a simple way to reduce you chance is to use other cars to block the view.
never be the first or last car in a group going over the limit. on a dual carrage way use the car in the opisite lane to obscure your car as you go around a bend.

Yeah they are suppose to follow the Manual for the device and have it stuck regid on a tri-pod, with no road signs at either side of the road, not to be used on a bend, no cars going in the opposite direction, MUST be aimed at the registration plate.....list goes on and on.
How do I know the guidelines in the manual ? Search for it online and read it yourself.
It's a disgrace that they think we're all this stupid and will simply 'give' them our money when it is they that are breaking the law by entrapment.

I wonder what would happen if all drivers switched to those smaller square front registration plates which are mounted to one side ? They are totally legal registration plates BTW.
