Ok, so my car passed with Flying colours today....and all the testers loved my car......all gooing and gaaing over it in the test bay!
Probably the most exciting car they have seen all day amongst the boring euro boxes and mpv's they test all the time.

So, i got my cert..............but its for one year....not 2.
Called them in the call centre...........got a stroppy olde one telling me its about the date of registration in the country of origin.

I said it arrived in this country (VRT'd) in June this year, but she said it did'nt matter blah blah blah.

Asked to speak to a manager, they called me back stating that they changed the rules and cars imported and vrt'd prior to July 1st last would only recieve a one year cert when tested.

I said fine (eventhough i don't agree), so I'll want half my test fee back then.

She said no.

I said what do you mean NO?, -if you went into a butchers and asked for a pound of sausages and he gave me half a pound of sausages but charged me for a full pound, you'd want half your money back!
simple i would have thought.

I stated that they failed today as service providers to inform me in writing or verbally that the cert i would get if my car passed would be for one year..........and I was charged for a test for a 2 year cert.

She was stumped!
They are sending me out a complaints form............which probably will be a waste of time to fill out and post off.

Fecking Wankers they are.................not the testers.....nice lads just doing their gig.....but the management......bloody clueless

Its crazy alrite but thats just the way it pans out, i got caught with that before luckily i got a year and a half, poor mate only got the 6months tho

The way the test is run is the same as it would be for a 2year cert tho, so in a years time when you have to go back and get it re-tested there shouldnt be a bother getting her through!!!! :D

Well done Ollie, I take it you put legal plates et al on the car before putting it in for the test?

Congrats Ollie. BTW, when you refitted the reflectors, hubs and number plates did you remember to reset the traps in the boot - or did the testers manage to evict the feckers?

Well done Ollie. This is changing from Jan 1st 2009. A friend of mine took them to court some time ago over it and he is delighted he won. This forced them to change this pathetic money making rule. So from Jan one's NCT cert is dated from the date of the test for a full two years. Another stupid thing is that if you imported a eg. 1.6 diesel before Jan 2008 you are on the old road tax rate of 430euros. And if you import an identical car today you are on new system and only pay 150euros road tax. Another friend is in this predicament and is considering going legal.
Sorry for ranting and hijacking. Congrats Ollie and happy motoring

Well done Ollie....nothing ever straight forward...always a catch

In 9 months time put it through again then you'll have it cleared for 21 months.......!!

Safe motoring.

Regards John.
