Tip if you car get broken into + satnav stolen

My car was broken into last week.
I live in a tiny village in Louth where all is normally quite and peaceful.
The car was parked on the drive, the roof was cut open which allowed them to open the passenger door and they stole my DVD/MP3 player and Garmin Nuvi 760 SatNav.
I've been emailing Garmin and tonight I got an email from their BE division who informed me I can view the position of my stolen satnav online, after I give them the serial number and a copy of the police report.
Can't wait to find out where the fecker is...

Sorry to hear about that. The same thing happened to me. Roof cut and DVD player stolen. Mine was in a multistorey car park

You can get GPS trackers for vehicles. They're only the size of a USB memory stick and have a long batterylife.

Money is paid to subscribe to teh service and you can view the location of the memory stick anywhere in the world. I've seen them advertised somwhere but can't remember. The signal is quite good too, one nutter I know used it to track an AK-47 (de-comissioned) he was importing to Ireland. He just left the stick in the box and could see it flying over europe.

Might be an idea to get one since the 5s are getting broken into a lot these days

I wonder how the satnav sends its position back? AFAIK, GPS units are passive (they receive a signal, & did not send anything. Does your Satnav have a SIM in it?

Unfortunately there are devices that can fight these trackers, I have a link but not sure it wise to post it.....

Putting the car in a steel shed or container or underground car park would fight most sat navs.

The sat nav's gone - forever.
Even if you can pin point its location, the cops will do little to try and recover it.
I'll give you an example - I worked for a company a while back and we have over 20k sterling in gear robbed from a facility. We know who took it as it was an inside job and only 1 person could have acess to this facility due to accessibility to Keys etc.
Anyways, when all this info was given to the Cops, what did they do?

Nada....They could'nt be arsed eventhough we had good information on the theft, the thief had access and good motive.
It's in the past unfortunately.
