need help!! mk1 rev problem

Postby Fla » Tue, 14 Apr 2009 12:43 +0000

Hi all,

As some of you might know Ive been floating around the mx seen for nearly four or so years. Due to being self employed an all I had to park the mx for a while until I got the business off the ground. Now Fusion is nearly 2 and I was getting the five ready for the Galway run. I had been starting her and driving her a little over the last 2 years but it developed a very odd problem last week:

When I rev her either in idle or moving she will only go to 2500rpm, it will then rev up n down from 2500-2800 like an old washing machine. It wont go above 2500 if I floor it. If I try to drive it I get power until 2500rpm then it lurches and jumps. I have done the basics, new leads, new plugs, wd40 what I can...

I really want to get her out for the run but Im up to my eyes in work and cant devote too much time. Has anyone any ideas or had the same issue..? It was fine a few months ago but hadnt been driven a lot...

Cheers guys..

I could be wrong but it sounds like its in limp home mood. Ecu thinks (and could be right) something is wrong and won't let you over rev it to prevent damage.
Have you tried to read the fault codes?

wow that's a strange one...
It does sound like limp mode. Especially if she drives ok under 2500rpm.
You will have to bring up the fault codes.

Check basic sensors are connected, Airflow meter, Throttle sensor and the coils.

Ya I was thinking the same myself. Im trying a different airflow meter tomorrow. As for the ECU, can any mazda garage read them or will I get the usual hassle??

Also you can reset the ecu by disconnecting battery, then hold down the break pedal for 30 secs to get rid of residual current from circuit.
Might be an idea to try to read the codes though.
I have a spare ecu at home if you need one.
