. You're friend needs educate themselves and see that 5's this age at this price are not selling. Like you can get a 99 or 00mk2 for 4k now. Still, best of luck with the sale.

Nice car. I disagree with the stig. You simply can't compare mk2/mk2.5 cars with mk1. It would be like telling land rover people that discovery prices should ditctate defender values or porsche people that late boxers determine old 911 values. sure you can get fresh mk2 for cheap money and thats great if thats what you like but it ain't a mk1 & 95 mk1 in such sweet condition as that one with all the right (and costly) bits a bargain at 4k. I mean to say even from this forum you can see that a good paint job is anything up on €1700 and a perfect hard top is harder to get than a dublin over kerry victory. Does stig have motive on this one.

You're entitled to your opinion - as I'am. And I don't need newbies coming here and telling me or others what we already know. One thing and 1 thing only will dictate the price of a car - (what the buyer will pay for it) - and why would they pay €4250 for a 14year old mk1 jap import when they could have a 9 or 10 year old newer model for smaller money?
Only an enthuasiast would pay more for an older car. Also, you say its got a prefect hardtop? have you let a cat out of a bag there. :cyclops:

I does'nt say anywhere in the OP's post about the Hardtops condition so maybe you're on the inside track and it's you that has the motive! :shock:

A tad touchy stig my knuckles hurt. smarts of seen but not heard. The welcome says something about no titles ..? I have no connection to that seller whatever. I simply stated that perfect lids make good money & going on those pics I doubt that the H-top is a dogs bowl. As for your peril of economic wisdom I know of 2 buyers in the last month who gave €2400 & €2750 for 91/92 cars that are solid but fair and the cheaper one needs a roof. To sort out bits n pieces & add a hard roof would bring prices to 4k I imagine.

Yeah, I'm touchy, some bloke near killed me recently in my mx5, so these days I'm touchy. :lol:

My point still stands, they would have got a Mk2 then for their 4k.......?
Cars are not shifting due to over expectations on asking prices as we all know.

I have to agree, 2 different cars.
I'd go for a MK1 any day and would be willing to pay more
than i would get a mk2 for.

I'm gonna jump in here as I feel some of that might apply to me.

I'm not, and I'm sure the original poster is not in the car sales trade. Speaking from personal experience I looked at similar cars advertised for sale and priced it accordingly. I had no idea that the market was as bad until it went up for sale. If you look at mk1's (and I have been looking) for ideas of price, you'll see most (good ones) around the 4k mark....now granted that doesn't mean that's what they're selling for, but the seller is entitled to try to get the max amount for their car?

I have my car up for sale here as I have also just bought an mx5, it was the reason I posted mine here, I also have it on donedeal/adverts and carzone. That doesn't mean I'm looking for you to sell your 5 and buy my car, the more places it's advertised the better.

Re; Mk1 being a preference, see - and enthuasiasts prefers a mk1. Still don't matter to the ordinary buyer, the vast majority of car buyers out there. They buy with their pocket.

I know lots of examples/friends who are trying to sell cars with over inflated prices - I've tried it myself last year, it's a self delusional move. That's fair enough, but a genuine seller can only determine what's 'real' by looking at the prices on the market and make their decision accordingly as for the majority this is the only yardstick people have.

I wasn't sure who this was directed at, but considering I have a honda prelude for sale here I was merely saying that I didn't post it for sale with the view to someone wanting rid of their mx5 to buy mine.

Maybe this is only in my mind, but I think na mx5's in tip top condition will become rarer than they have been, due to a few factors: age, price is as cheap here now to negate importing, owner neglect and car's being written off etc. which in my mind will mean they hold their value a little more than most. Sorry as this is straying a bit off topic now, but I have looked at a few that are advertised out there for similar money.

Nope, I brought in my 93 1.8 from the uk last year VRT and all for €3300.
That was when the € was @ 0.64ish per pound, its round 85p now making 5's even cheaper to import than they cost here privately. There's similar spec/year cars for sale here with €4,300 and up to €5,200 asking prices here. Over priced.

As long as the Vendor and purchaser are happy with the price, then the price is right. Nobody else's opinion matters. if you are advertising on an enthusiasts forum you're probably advertising to enthusiasts.

To be honest Stig my feathers were more ruffled by the 'newbie' reference. Bit out of order I felt. No Daddies on this site.

Sorry should've clarified, when I said import I meant from japan, I imported my first roadster from japan and costs here now negate that.

The same will happen in england too though, plus quite a few suffer from rust over there. I think most good ones here seem to be priced around 4k mark.

I looked into importing from england too, in real world costs, you got your car here and vrt'd for 3300, but then take into account the time to go over and back (including costs, flights/ferry/petrol etc) or pay someone to collect. Then the hassle of going to the vrt office etc. You prob didn't have that much change from 4k?
