Long story short: for Father's Day, Mrs Gtt had arranged a 'Drive & Dine' present, which the local M-B guys, were sponsoring, and so I got din-dins' and a test drive in a Merc. We (aka, She ), wanted a spin in a new E-Class Coupe, so I duly signed up, in, loaded all up.
I got it to 150 before I heard the sickening sound of metal crunching............... :
150mm that is. Yep, taking it out of the parking space, right lock, I drove over the circular 'foot' of one of those mobile bollards, that hotels use to hang the little plastic chain on to, when they're cordoning off the car park, etc........the 'bollard' tipped over, into the wing of the car........oh, and yes, EVERYONE in the car park saw it........groan ......Salesman says it's all good, and to keep going. Drove the car the 10 miles. Gorgeous. Fug me, the brakes on it put my cars to shame......interior gorgeous as well, and, I'd say it out accelerates my 968 as well.......... .........all whilst costing only €300 p.a. to tax........
Anyhoo, get back to car park, park it lovely (reversed in, no prob..), unloaded out of the car, and just thought I'd have a look at the spot where the bollard touched............oh fuggin hell.....2" scratch in the beautiful paint........oh jeebus, I nearly got sick . I get sales guy over and he tells me not to worry, that it's part & parcel of business, and to forget about it.........I offered to pay whatever it costs to fix, but he wasn't having any of it.........I've been sick as a parrot all eve over it.............
It wasn't the bollard that did the damage - it is just round, after all - nope, it's the metal HOOK on the side of it for hanging the chain that did the damage.........
It was a great present for the day, which unfortunately had a little cloud at the end........sigh.........
