coolant issues

Hi guys, I am new to the forum and a proud owner of a MX5 1.8 1998 and am having trouble with engine temperature. I got a new water pump fitted but temp gauge still goes up once I go over 60 mph. Its not a leak or dodgy radiator cap or blockage - anyone have this issue? any ideas? Cheers, Caroline

could be air in the system or a dodgy thermostat . Worth replacing it as its probably old and they are cheap.

Yeah try a new One and give system a hood bleed. You'd be surprised how much even a little air in it can block up

What's a hood bleed?

Caroline,
Did you have this issue before waterpump replacement :?:

You say above it happens when you go above 60mph which would indicate to me that your radiator is blocked and needs replacement. The radiator may look good but if its brown in colour its a good indication its blocked, which will reduce cooling .

I had the same problem with my 2006 Honda Accord recently. The garage checked everything and we were all scratching our heads. As a final resort they switched the Radiator and this solved the problem. Car is relatively low mileage and well looked after, radiator looked perfect, but it was obviously blocked

a good garage or an informed enthusiast will know if its a radiator thats at fault . Infared heat gun will show rad faults.

I had this problem several years back with a 1.6 Mk1. Exceed 60 mph and the temp would climb to the point of
boiling over. I replaced the thermostat and it was fine afterwards. As the lads say, it's a cheap fix so it's no harm
to rule that out before proceeding further.

Is the air side of the Rad blocked? Too many bugs and flies?
