Planning my journey to Lithuania. Trying to find the best route through England. Google maps is the obvious choice but wouldn't relay on completely. It suggests M6-M1 and alternative M42- M40 which I think I'm going to choose. Has anyone done such a journey and knows thing or two? Also, are there any tolls (that you have to pay by 8 o'clock in the morning
)? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I've used this route a couple of times, A55 from Holyhead to Chester and cut across to the M6 via Winsford. Then follow the M6 straight down + around Bermingham to theM42/M40. M40 to the M25 and circle round the south of London onto the M26/M20 to Dover.

Greetings from Germany ! I just passed through Dover before the weekend but I went from Fishguard. It's a long day, more so from Holyhead. No tolls but motorway fuel prices are very steep.

That's what Google maps predicts but guys on forums says about 9 hours with one or two traffic jams which you will be stuck in. Anyways.. Need to make sure I'll be there before ferry leaves..

I heard fuel is expensive..and mx5 doesn't really like motorways. I'd say a tank and a bit should do?

My v-spec does around 280 to 300 miles to a tank on the motorway. You may need a top up before Dover...I did !

Why not get ferry from Ireland to Cherbourg (its cheaper than Ireland to UK.Its maybe around the same in driving time.I have looked at both options.I am heading over myself at the end of August heading to Germany.

I know what you saying. Looked at that option too. Could be a bit cheaper..but could not bear 20hours on ferry.. It's all about driving

Going across the UK is faster - you can be in France on the same day by crossing the UK. Dublin/Rosslare to Cherbourg is probably more relaxing though !
