There has been so many things go wrong with my car i think i have become totally paranoid. Every noise i hear (current ones are a slight knock from somewhere (suspension???!!!!) and a whine in the engine) makes me think that the the car is about to blow up, breakdown or just go wrong.
So am i paranoid and all cars make some noise's & rattles (especaily a 16 year old one) or should i worry.
Btw it drives better than ever, no lose in power, handles well, temp seems fine, oil pressure ok.

I think its all in the mind,

I read on miata.net how a HLA works, I am convinced the engine wasn't ticking before this, and NOW!. I'm demented leaning forward every time I turn the key. Since the post about the glovebox here I've started hearing every single creak from the thing. but hey, just means getting to know em a bit better...... 8)

 I was in the same boat last week Ash. Had an annoying rattle coming @the front only at speed 80-100k+and after 5 evenings of looking around underneath i eventually have found it to be the front right wheel bearing which i stripped out to check. It can be so annoying when ya cant actually see the problem but eventually you'll track it down.
On the wheel bearing issue having probs finding one @ the moment as all the usual suppliers mx5parts/autolink/sumo seem to be out of stock and dont fancy paying 215 euro to mazda for one .

I reckon that the noise is from the front right side and pretty damn sure it ain't anything to do with the suspension. Remember the hub i asked you about Dave that seems a bit loose. Would that indicate wheel bearing??

Paranoid?

Yep, me too.

I'm forever thinking that the moan in the rear wheels has got worse / the gears are getting harder to engage / one shock is f*cked, etc. etc.

This tends to happen when I'm tired & stressed or miserable... just like when I start feeling old & fat!

...or maybe I just am...

I know what you mean, ever since I put in the turbo I have been worrying at every new noise coming from the engine...

Its getting to the stage now where I am going to put aside some money in case it goes pop and just drive the sh1t out it until it does.

Had a new ticking noise myself, friend who is a mechanic said that it could be the HLA's or else it could be a push - rod going in the engine (which would be game over for that engine...)

I'm just waiting for the day when it lets go in a big cloud of smoke as im try to overtake a yaris or somthing!

I suppose its the trouble of trying to get more performance out of old cars....
